Newtownbreda 3 – 4 BYM

In the first meeting between the sides this season, Bangor Young Men tried to blow away the cobwebs from the festive season with a trip away to Newtownbreda.

In what has become a trademark of this YM side, they started without a hangover in sight, going 1 up after 1 minute, Matty Hall finishing well in the first attack of the game. After dominating the opening 15mins, the YM fell into a period of play that many would regard as the worst of the season, conceding 3 penalties and ending the half 3-1 down.

After a few home truths between both players and management at half time, a rejuvenated YM side took to the field to start the second half and quickly pulled a goal back following a towering header at the back post by David Malloy.

As the Bangor side continued to press, they were rewarded with an equaliser, Matty Mckee and Matty Hall linking up to beat the offside trap and Hall picked up his 2nd goal of the game with a composed finish past the keeper. Newtownbreda were gifted the opportunity to go ahead straight from the kick off as the YM conceded their 4th penalty of the match but the homeside opted to change their penalty taker, who dispatched his chance wide of the post.

Seizing the opportunity, this Bangor Young Men team, who simply do not know when they are beaten pushed on for the winner which came via David Malloy with his 2nd. of the game as well. A Ronaldo-esque leap at the back post, seen Malloy power in another great header.

As the game drew to a close, both sides were reduced to 10 men but Bangor Young Men held on for another vital 3 points.

MoTM : David Malloy. Commanding at the back and a threat upfront. Fantastic all round performance.

Special Mention : George Patterson. Some outstanding saves to ensure the 3 points.
