Home win for BYM 1st Team

The Young Men hosted Newtownbreda at Bloomfield Road on Saturday and started the game well, pressing high up the pitch and it didn’t take long to score the first goal of the game. Sam Howell played a ball out right to Matty McKee who found Rhys Thompson who in turn crossed and picked out Sam Howell who slotted home from 6 yards. Shortly after a long kick from Newtownbreda lobbed the YM defence and their striker finished with an easy header canceling out the opener. It didn’t, however, take long for the YM to regain the lead. Matty McKee picked up the ball from midfield and put a brilliant ball into the box where the defender somehow managed to steer it into his own net such was the quality from McKee.

2-1 at the half and the YM hit Breda straight after kick off good work from McKee again in midfield putting a ball over the top where the non-stop Kurty Bell pressed the keeper, won the ball and slotted home from a tight angle. Unfortunately, the YM then switched off and conceded a free kick which was despatched making the scoreline 3-2 proving silly mistakes cost goals.

5 mins later great interplay from the impressive McKee in midfield and some great work down the right from Thompson and Donlan, McKee found Chris Crookes who bullied his way in front of the defence and made it 4-2 with a good header from close range. A shot from John Sloan nearly made it five but for a good save from keeper keeping the final score 4-2 to the home team.

Overall a good solid win with chances now being created and with a bit of luck in front of goal there could have been more as Chris Crooks and Rhys Thompson both went close. The defence wasn’t overly troubled apart from the two goals conceded so positives there too. The team is looking more and more solid throughout as we hope to push on in both league and cup. This week the team travel to Kilmore in the Clarence Cup.
