BYM 4 – 4 Castlewellan
Bym kicked off the season with a hard-fought draw against a well drilled Castlewellan outfit. The game started in the worst possible way for the BYM with Castlewellan scoring from a corner in the first minute after some very poor defending. Things went from bad to worst as Castlewellan doubled their lead soon after from another corner with more bad defending at the back post.
As Bym settled into the game they started to create a few changes and should have got back into the game sooner than they did before Sam Howells speculative effort from 25yards went under the keeper into the net.
Back in the game, BYM would have been looking to push on but yet again we conceded against the run of play, and we went into half-time 3-1 down.
Davy had a few choice words at half-time and the BYM came out like a different team, pressuring Castlewellan at every opportunity and causing them all sorts of problems. On the comeback trail, BYMs second was a brilliantly worked team goal with Scott Stewart and Kurty Bell working well together down the left, before crossing perfectly for Sam Howell to head home his second. Very much on the front foot, BYM pushed for the equaliser and this came from the penalty spot when Pete Smyth was upended in the box. Sam Howell completed his hat-trick from the spot and it looked like there would only be one winner. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and once again poor defending from another corner meant BYM had to fight their way back again.
Jonny Small was introduced off the bench and as he always does, came up with the goal to rescue a point for the home team. It’s a disappointing start for the BYM but the positive fight back shows the boys have the heart for a fight.
The club wishes Scott Stewart a quick recovery after from a dislocated elbow late in the game, hopefully, he’ll be back as soon as possible.
On to the next game against Kelvin at home on Saturday.
